About Piston Air Compressors
Piston (reciprocating) compressors are the most common type of air compressor for small and medium workshops and production units. A piston moves back and forth inside a cylinder, drawing in and compressing air. Mofidi Air Industry manufactures piston compressors from 100 to 3,000 L/min air delivery, with 1 to 25 HP motors and horizontal or vertical tanks.
What Does “L/min” in the Model Name Mean?
The number in the name of each Mofidi piston compressor (e.g. 300 L/min) is its air delivery — the amount of air drawn in per minute — not the tank size. Each model is available with one or more tank sizes, listed on its product page.
How to Choose a Piston Compressor
- Air delivery: add up the consumption of all tools running at the same time and add a 20–30% reserve.
- Power supply: the 100–350 L/min models run on single-phase 220 V; 450 L/min and larger need three-phase 380 V.
- Pressure: depending on size, Mofidi models work at 8 or 10 bar.
- Tank: a larger tank suits fluctuating demand; vertical models save floor space.

For very high air demand or long continuous running, a rotary screw compressor is more economical. Further reading: Mofidi Piston Compressor: A Powerful and Cost-Effective Choice for Compressed Air and Guide to Choosing the Right Industrial Compressor for Manufacturing Facilities.
FAQ
Are there single-phase piston compressors?
Yes. The Mofidi 100, 200, 300 and 350 L/min models run on single-phase 220 V power.
What is the difference between piston and screw compressors?
Piston compressors are economical for medium demand and intermittent use; screw compressors are built for high demand and continuous operation.
